The Catechesis of The Good Shepherd is a spiral of Sacred Scripture, reflection, and works of the children that encompasses the ages of 3 through 12. (Level I, ages 3-6, Level II, ages 6-9, Level III, ages 9-12).

The primary focus is to journey with the child and to provide the child with access to the liturgical symbols, objects, biblical metaphors and images through which the child encounters and finds expression for the mystery of God’s presence in their lives. 

The child’s experience of the sacred in the Catechesis manifest itself in the child’s profoundly respectful interaction with the biblical and liturgical materials, as well as through drawings, prayers, deep contemplation, and often awesome insights expressed to the catechists, parents or others. The Catechesis is not just another way for adults to teach religion to children. Rather its vision represents an understanding and respect for the child as a spiritual being who is already in relationship with God. 

First Eucharist and First Reconciliation are included in the Catechesis of the Good Shephered. This is a two year journey which includes a sharing in Sunday sessions, six nights of reflection and two retreats. Parent involvement is a major part of this journey.

First year follows the PreK-6 2010-2011 Calendar. Second Year follows the PreK-6 2010-2011 Calendar in addition to the Sacramental Prep 2010-2011 Calendar. Calendars are posted on this website under the Files section.

Joint gatherings with youth from Nativity Parish and Old Mission Parish. High school youth from both parishes meet on Sundays at 7:00pm at Old Mission; Junior High youth from both parishes meet on Fridays at 7:00pm at Nativity. A two-year Confirmation Program is also offered for High School youth from both parishes. Contact: Anne Lorenzen at 544-2357, ext. 15.

Weekday groups for those who want to meet regularly to study & discuss scripture together after the 9:00am Mass. Men's Bible Study, Tuesdays at 9:30am, Women's Bible Study, Thursdays at 9:30am. 

Four times a year the community gathers for scripture sharing and a brunch provided after the 8:00am Mass on Sunday. There we break open the scriptures of the day as a family and share the powerful insights with each other.
