Online and Electronic Giving

posted Apr 14, 2011 2:23 PM by Michael Soliman   [ updated Apr 20, 2011 3:25 PM ]

Many of our parishioners have learned the gift of Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT) as a way of benefitting our parish.  It provides a regular gift and helps considerably in our planning.  It also saves time and money in terms of writing checks or finding ourselves short of cash on Sunday.  I myself do this as a part of my responsibility to the parish.

The funds can come through a direct transfer from a checking account--I find this most helpful--or it can come through a credit card.  Many like this because they can get mileage points or other benefits as well as gift the parish.  Thank you to those who have been doing this!

We now have a new way of gifting the parish.  You can now go online and contribute through our new web-site.  You can do a one time gift or set up a regular gift and maintain it yourself at any time--making whatever changes you might feel necessary.  You can trade off different credit cards, update when a card expires and you receive a new one or change the amount you want to donate.  You can designate what you want your gift to go to--plate, special donation, AMA, Family Fund etc.  Access is through your email address.

We would like all who wish to donate electronically to do it through our site and to give yourself control of your gift, even if you have already giving electronically.  It will work a little differently for those who are already giving and for those who choose to do it for the first time.

If you already donate electronically, please send me your email address--the one you would like to use for this purpose.  I will enter it into the system and let you know when I have done that.  Then, when you go online you won’t have to re-enter card numbers or bank checking and routing numbers and your records will be in one place.  You will be given a password which you will then change for yourself.

If you are doing it for the first time, just go to the site.  Enter your email address at the site.  You will be sent a password.  Once you have that return to the site, enter your password, change the password to one you will remember and then enter your information.

Pray about this.  It is a way to assure a consistency in your gift and it is a great help to the parish.  All your gifts are recorded and you will receive the appropriate tax documents at the end of the year.  Thanks!

Please give a warm welcome to our new Director of Music, Idona Cabrinha! With her many years of diverse music ministry experience and extensive musical training, our music group will be in terrific hands. She truly is a gift!

A word from Idona:

"I look forward to directing and continuing to serve as music ministers keeping the love of our Lord at the heart of our sung liturgies."

Please congratulate her the next time you see her at mass!

Email Distribution Lists

posted Mar 22, 2011 3:09 PM by Michael Soliman   [ updated Apr 7, 2011 3:16 PM ]

Greetings, All!

Many of you may have received an email (or two... or three... or four...) from me regarding an "Email Distribution List". One of my goals is to improve communication between the members of our different ministries within our parish.

For example, in Music Ministry, there are times when a life event occurs that conflicts with a scheduled mass that we are responsible for. In that instance, we send out an "SOS" asking for a substitute. Instead of having to type in the email addresses of every member of Music Ministry every time this happens, we have a single email address that we email to that distributes that message to all current members of Music Ministry. Nobody has to worry about maintaining their own personal contact list. They rest assured that emailing to that distribution list will reach everyone and that it is updated regularly as members join or move on to other things.

We've had that for almost 8 years now. It's time to share that with the other ministries.

I discovered that a set of distribution lists were kept by former staff members, so I consolidated these lists and created new ones. Here are the various groups that have distribution lists thus far:
  • Altar Servers
  • Eucharistic Ministers
  • Gift Bearers
  • Lectors
  • Ushers
  • Hospital and Home Visit Ministry
  • Hospitality Committee
  • Junior High School Youth Group
  • Senior High School Youth Group
  • RCIA
  • Sacramental Preparation for Children
  • K-6 Faith Formation
  • Women's Spirituality and First Friday Mass
  • Music Ministry
After I created each distribution list, I sent an email to the members of the different lists informing them of their membership. Immediately following, I started receiving replies such as, "I'm not a Nativity Parishioner. I don't know how I got on this list."

I realized that these distribution lists may be a little bit out of date.

This is where I need your help:
  1. If you are a member of one (or more) of these ministries, and you haven't received an email from me already, please fill out the form below.
  2. If you were added to the wrong distribution list(s), please fill out the form below.
  3. If you are a member of a ministry, but don't see a distribution list for your ministry above, please fill out the form below.
  4. If you are NOT a member of any of these ministries and you are wondering why I am bothering you, please DO NOT hit "Report Spam" or just delete the emails. Instead, please fill out the form below.
  5. When all else fails, please fill out the form below.
  6. When it all really fails horribly, please email me. Tell me about it and I'll try and help you out when I get a moment. If I can't help you, I'll try and find someone to help you. If they can't help you, there is always prayer. :)
Now imagine how awesome it will be when a new Liturgical Ministry schedule needs to be sent out to everyone and all the organizer has to do is send an email to one email address. Or imagine when more Eucharistic Ministers are needed for a particular mass and the organizer just needs to send an email to one email address. Or imagine when an RCIA meeting is cancelled and the organizer just needs to send an email to one email address to inform everyone.

Close your eyes. Imagine. Excellent.

Thank you, Everyone, for your patience and time with all the growing pains here at Nativity. I have much more in plan for us that will hopefully ease the burden of administrative and organizational duties, but we must walk first before we run. Then soon after, we'll fly.

Blessings!

UPDATE: 3/25/2011
Some of you are voicing concerns that your emails and personal email addresses are now on the public website.

Rest assured that they are not on the public website.

I am monitoring the usage of every list so if there is any abuse I can take immediate action. As more people start utilizing the lists, we can discern usage patterns and tune the lists accordingly.

Again, if you have any questions or concerns, please email me!

UPDATE: 4/7/2011
The Liturgical Ministry distribution list is now only accessible to coordinators and staff for announcement purposes only. If you join any of the Liturgical Ministries, you will be added to the Liturgical Ministry list. If you are a part of multiple Liturgical Ministries, you will only be added once, so don't worry about duplicate emails.

Again, I am so grateful for our new website and have had many positive comments on it.  Thank you Michael Soliman.  This evening, March 22, Deacon Greg led a wonderful retreat called "Prayers of the Heart."  All of us were so blessed that I wanted to share part of it with you.  I am attaching the description and guide for doing "Prayers of the Heart."  Thank you Greg.
